Democrats have regained control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, giving them subpoena authority to investigate President Donald Trump’s family cryptocurrency ventures and broader business dealings when the new Congress takes office. World Liberty Financial is a central potential target, including its USD1 stablecoin, WLFI token sales, foreign ownership arrangements and reported $500 million investment by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s investment vehicle. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted preliminary conditional approval to World Liberty Trust Company on Aug. 14, but final authorization is still required. Incoming House Oversight Committee chair Robert Garcia has promised inquiries into cryptocurrency transactions, foreign investors, government contracts, financing and possible conflicts of interest. Reuters estimated that Trump family crypto ventures generated at least $2.3 billion in earnings, while a separate financial-disclosure analysis put Trump’s 2025 crypto-related income above $1 billion, including about $635 million in TRUMP meme-coin royalties. Investigators could begin seeking records as early as February 2027, while Trump retains veto power over legislation and the White House has rejected the planned inquiries.
