DongSung Finetec has signed a 192.3 billion won contract, valued at approximately $143.1 million in a regulatory filing, with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to supply cryogenic insulation materials for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. The order covers large vessels operating under long-term charter contracts for LNG shipments originating in the United States. Some 200,000-cubic-meter-class ships will use Mark III Flex+, GTT's top-tier LNG cargo containment system. On a 174,000-cubic-meter-class vessel, the system reduces LNG's natural boil-off rate to 0.07%, helping limit cargo losses. DongSung Finetec said it has secured 29 of the 31 vessels worldwide confirmed to use Mark III Flex+, giving it a 94% share. The contract is also the company's first order from a major Japanese shipowner. Demand for high-efficiency containment systems is increasing as the International Maritime Organization tightens carbon-emissions rules and U.S. long-haul LNG shipments expand.
