K-water, the chair institution of the Asia Water Council (AWC), marked the council’s 10th anniversary by declaring the start of the "AWC 2.0" era during meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, from Nov. 4 to 6. AWC, established in 2016, has 187 member institutions from 27 Asian countries and is the largest water-sector cooperation body in the region. The 25th and 26th Board of Council meetings and the 5th General Assembly are addressing the council’s past decade, membership, governance and leadership. The 25th Board approved seven new member institutions, including Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Bhutan’s state-owned investment company Druk Holding and Investments. The event is also supporting overseas expansion by South Korean water companies through exhibitions, one-on-one consultations and discussions on projects involving artificial intelligence and digital water technologies. K-water highlighted digital twins for water management, AI water purification plants and Smart Water Network Management, while President and CEO Yoon Seog-dae discussed Thailand’s aging water-supply pipelines, smart leak management and potential joint projects with regional officials.
