President Lee Jae Myung instructed officials to build an economic virtuous cycle in which strong export growth supports a recovery in domestic demand and spreads beyond large conglomerates to smaller companies and merchants. His remarks came at a meeting with key aides as South Korea reported an all-time high current account surplus of more than $60 billion in September, supported by semiconductor exports. October exports rose 93.7 percent from a year earlier to $115.3 billion, the second-highest monthly figure on record after $121.1 billion in September. Lee said the economy needed to move beyond quantitative expansion and develop new growth engines, while making it easier for people with ideas and skills to launch businesses. He called for financial and administrative support to help promising startups enter global markets. Earlier remarks also outlined broader support for entrepreneurship, including opportunities to recover from failure, education reform, expanded finance and regulatory innovation as artificial intelligence and robotics reshape employment.
