Rep. Ahn Do-geol, a lawmaker of South Korea’s Democratic Party, said stablecoins are essential to future financial innovation and urged swift action to establish rules governing their use. Speaking at a Nov. 5 policy seminar in Seoul marking the publication of "The Future of Money, the Stablecoin Revolution," Ahn described stablecoins as a platform for new transactions, financial products and services that could create a new foundation for growth in the financial industry. He also highlighted the potential to combine stablecoins, artificial intelligence and digital finance, while warning that innovation must be accompanied by safeguards. Ahn called for swift passage of the Basic Digital Asset Act and the creation of a risk-management framework. South Korea’s government has separately planned to submit a digital-asset basic law bill containing stablecoin-related measures to the National Assembly, with Yoo Dong-soo saying the proposal should be processed quickly after submission.
