South Korea has not begun discussing additional sanctions against North Korea over the alleged theft of $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, a Unification Ministry official said on Nov. 5. The government has not yet established the incident’s precise details and has therefore not begun considering policy responses. The FBI said late last month that TraderTraitor, a hacking group linked to North Korea’s Reconnaissance General Bureau, was responsible. North Korea denied the allegation in a Nov. 3 statement issued under the name of Kim Yo Jong, vice department director of the Workers’ Party, describing the claim as a political provocation.
