Amazon has made Uber Eats its U.S. restaurant-delivery partner for Prime members, replacing Grubhub under an agreement announced in a joint release on Thursday. Prime members can order through Amazon.com or the Amazon Shopping app without creating an Uber account and receive free delivery on restaurant orders of $25 or more. Amazon and Uber are also offering $20 off a first order of at least $25 during the partnership’s first two weeks. The deal ends Amazon’s commercial arrangement with Grubhub, which began in 2022 with a free Grubhub+ offer for Prime members and later became an ongoing benefit. It gives Prime members access to Uber Eats’ large U.S. restaurant-delivery network while deepening existing ties between Amazon and Uber in cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis and the integration of Uber Eats with Amazon’s Alexa+ assistant. The agreement comes as competition in food delivery intensifies, with DoorDash saying last week that it planned to acquire Instacart for $17 billion.
