Bitcoin fell more than 4% below $77,000 to about $76,400 on Thursday as a sharp technology-stock selloff spread across risk assets. Ethereum dropped more than 6% to around $2,270, while Solana declined 5% to $90 and XRP fell 4% to $1.25. Total crypto market capitalization dropped 4.6% to approximately $2.57 trillion, according to CoinMarketCap data. The move triggered more than $574 million in liquidations within an hour, including over $540 million in long positions, while 24-hour liquidations exceeded $835 million in CoinGlass data. The episode followed a broader risk-off retreat in U.S. stocks linked to concerns over AI infrastructure spending, borrowing costs, semiconductor prospects and tighter oversight after elections that gave Democrats control of both chambers of Congress. Earlier market snapshots had placed 24-hour crypto liquidations as high as $1.03 billion and estimated a roughly $140 billion decline in crypto-market value, while a separate four-hour tally put capitalization near $2.53 trillion.
