Crypto exchanges liquidated $631 million in long positions over 24 hours as Bitcoin traded between roughly $76,000 and $80,500. The move followed a separate episode on Oct. 22, 2026, when $210 million in long positions were liquidated during a 30-minute window as Bitcoin dipped toward $81,000 and Ethereum moved toward $2,300. Trackers cited in the earlier report placed total crypto liquidations during the broader decline between about $340 million and more than $1 billion. Long positions are bets that prices will rise, while leverage allows traders to borrow funds to increase the size of those bets. Exchanges hold collateral against leveraged positions and automatically close them when losses threaten to exceed that collateral. During the broader market decline, Huang Licheng, known as Machi Big Brother, reduced a 25x Ethereum long position, according to Hyperbot data cited by Odaily. The position held 600 ETH worth about $1.372 million, with Ethereum at $2,281, or $30 above its $2,251 liquidation price.
