President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating rose 2 percentage points from a week earlier to 41%, its first reading above 40% in more than two months, according to a Gallup Korea poll released on the 6th. Disapproval also increased 1 point to 50%, leaving the approval-disapproval gap at 9 percentage points, compared with 10 points a week earlier. Gallup said Lee’s rating has remained largely unchanged over the past three weeks despite the latest increase. The survey of 1,001 adults aged 18 and older was conducted nationwide from the 3rd to the 5th. Diplomacy was the most cited reason for approval, followed by the economy and livelihoods, communication, and policies for low- and middle-income households and welfare. Housing policy remained the leading reason for disapproval, followed by the economy and livelihoods. Support for the ruling Democratic Party rose 1 point to 36%, while the People Power Party fell 2 points to 28%, widening the parties’ gap to 8 points. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
