BNB Chain and Base issued security updates after a bug in the Reth Ethereum execution client raised concerns about incorrect blockchain state-root calculations across Ethereum-compatible networks. BNB Chain said opBNB does not use op-reth and that exposure on BSC-Reth is limited; its developers were preparing a hotfix and monitoring the network, with no action required from developers or users at the time. Base, which uses Reth in its execution infrastructure, said it identified the issue on November 4, patched all block-building nodes the same day, and confirmed on November 5 that the network’s state root was correct, operations were uninterrupted and user funds were unaffected. Base released version 1.5.3 and advised node operators to upgrade. The bug could cause incorrect state roots, disrupting synchronization or producing unreliable proofs. Reth developers fixed the underlying issue in version 2.10.0, with related updates including op-reth 2.8.1. Blockaid described the flaw as a software correctness bug rather than a confirmed exploit and reported no known financial losses. LayerZero temporarily paused some off-chain infrastructure and delayed certain cross-chain messages as a precaution, while some decentralized finance services restricted deposits or routing during the assessment.
