A Tsinghua graduate studying at University College London said he was trapped in a telecom fraud scheme for approximately 45 days after arriving in the United Kingdom. The victim, identified as Shi某某, said a call displaying "Embassy" as the caller ID was followed by three hours of relentless questioning from people posing as cyber police officers. The group later impersonated Interpol and convinced him that he was assisting a money-laundering investigation. They monitored him by video for 24 hours, used psychological manipulation and exhaustion to impair his judgment, and induced him to buy cryptocurrency and transfer funds to designated accounts. His family was also persuaded to send money. After returning to China, he found that the scammers had used his credit card to purchase airline tickets while he was out of contact. He urged the public to study anti-fraud guidance, saying criminals exploit timing gaps and information asymmetries to construct targeted schemes.
