Binance has appointed Justin Yek as chief financial officer, replacing Kaiser Ng, who is leaving after more than five years to pursue a new venture. Yek was most recently vice-president of finance at Airwallex, while Ng has been Binance’s CFO since January 2022 and previously worked at rival exchange Kraken. Co-CEO Yi He said a transition plan had been implemented over the previous six months. The leadership change came just over a week after hackers stole $6.3 billion worth of cryptocurrency in a breach that began with malware hidden in software downloads and fake recruitment efforts targeting engineers. Binance froze withdrawals for several days, and users withdrew a net $3.6 billion during the first few hours after access was restored. Binance said it would fully reimburse affected customers and cover losses. The FBI blamed a North Korean hacking group, an allegation Pyongyang denied; the existing account identified the group as TraderTraitor. The theft exceeded earlier major incidents including the $625 million Ronin Network exploit and the $530 million Coincheck hack.
