XRP Ledger developers have proposed the LendingProtocolV1_2 amendment to correct repayment rounding in the planned native lending protocol. The change would use a telescoping calculation to align outstanding balances with the remaining repayment schedule, preventing small differences from accumulating and making a final installment exceed the rounded PeriodicPayment. Each on-time LoanPay would reduce TotalValueOutstanding to the scheduled amount for one fewer payment, capped at the rounded PeriodicPayment, while qualifying overpayments would reset the balance to the revised scheduled value. The proposal moves scheduled-value calculations into a shared scheduledValue function and includes safeguards for principal, interest and zero-interest loans. Tests cover Legacy, CashBasis and FixedPrecision vaults, different amendment configurations, existing loans and overpayments. Loans already carrying a one-unit rounding difference may retain it until an overpayment is made. LendingProtocolV1_2 remains under review in pull request #8698 and requires support from more than 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks before mainnet activation.
