French far-right parties propose a five-year pilot project to harness surplus nuclear energy for Bitcoin mining, marking a significant policy turnaround amid internal divisions and contrasting stances.
France’s far-right National Rally (RN) and lawmakers from the Union of the Rights for the Republic (UDR) filed a proposal on July 11 to repurpose surplus nuclear energy for Bitcoin mining under a five-year pilot project. Led by RN’s Aurélien Lopez-Liguori, the initiative aims to transform idle nuclear energy at EDF sites into profitable digital assets, potentially generating $100-150 million annually per gigawatt, despite ongoing internal disputes among party members.
