A newly published U.S. House bill would move government-seized Bitcoin into a Treasury-managed strategic reserve and require it to be held for at least 20 years. The American Reserve Modernization Act, or H.R. 8957, was introduced on May 21 by Alaska Representative Nicholas Begich and referred to the House Financial Services Committee. The measure also calls for quarterly proof-of-reserve (public verification of holdings) and independent audits, alongside a 180-day study on budget-neutral ways to increase the government's Bitcoin holdings. The proposal points to a more formal federal framework for managing seized digital assets rather than treating them purely as assets for disposal.
