China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate said the suspect allegedly gained a friend’s trust, suggested switching to a more convenient digital wallet, and then exploited the setup to take the assets.
A man surnamed Zhang in Shandong allegedly stole virtual currency after helping an acquaintance surnamed Feng handle crypto transactions over a long period, then persuading Feng to switch to a digital wallet for easier operation. China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate said Zhang took advantage of the moment when Feng was writing down the wallet’s mnemonic phrase (seed words used to restore access) and memorized 11 words with the naked eye and strong recall, laying the groundwork to seize the assets.
