OpenAI said on June 11 that it will acquire Ona, a startup that provides secure, preconfigured cloud environments for AI agents to access tools, systems and contextual information. OpenAI said the technology will be used to strengthen Codex, helping its coding assistant handle longer-running tasks and support more organizations deploying agents into production. OpenAI previously said Codex is used by more than 5 million people each week, up 400% from earlier this year, while Ona had supported 2 million developers in secure, reproducible cloud environments. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and the transaction was previously described as subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
