The Algorand Foundation released an updated roadmap for its quantum-resistance push, shifting the timeline from a broad end-2027 target to protocol changes beginning in 2026 and network-wide "quantum-safe" capabilities aimed for late 2027 to 2028. The first phase includes post-quantum accounts, multisignature wallets and staking support, followed by gradual upgrades to core protocol components and a wider encryption migration. Earlier roadmap details had pointed to native quantum-resistant accounts in Q3 2026, multisignature support by the end of 2026 and a verifiable random functions paper in early 2027. The effort builds on work the foundation said began in 2022 and is intended to strengthen the blockchain against longer-term quantum computing risks.
