Wang’s exit leaves Bastian Aue as sole director as the Ethereum Foundation faces senior departures, debate over its CROPs mandate and conflicting claims about a roughly $30 million annual core development funding need.
Hsiao-Wei Wang has stepped down as co-executive director and board member of the Ethereum Foundation, effective immediately, after returning from sabbatical. Her departure, the second co-director exit in four months, leaves interim co-Executive Director Bastian Aue as the sole director and adds to a broader wave of senior departures. The leadership turnover comes as the foundation faces scrutiny over its CROPs mandate and debate over core development funding: former Ethereum Foundation coordinator Trent Van Epps warned that more than 10 client, research and coordination groups need about $30 million a year and could face a “slow-burning funding crisis” within three to nine months, while Tom Lee said near-term funding is already secured and the probability of a crisis is zero.
