President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran had told him ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz would face no tolls, insurance costs or other charges. In the same Truth Social post, Trump said no money had been given to Iran or released to it by the United States, but added that some Iranian funds under U.S. control would be released to American farmers and ranchers to purchase corn, wheat, soybeans and other food for Iran. He said food is "desperately needed" in Iran and that the purchases would be made exclusively from the United States. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global oil shipping chokepoint, making any statement on transit costs or access closely watched by energy and financial markets.
