The new Forward Deployed Engineering unit will embed AWS engineers with customer teams to speed production AI deployments, especially in regulated industries, while intensifying competition in tech consulting and client-embedded AI services.
Amazon Web Services said it is investing $1 billion in a new Forward Deployed Engineering unit that will place thousands of engineers inside client organizations to help build and deploy production artificial intelligence systems faster. AWS said the program is designed to cut agentic AI rollouts from months to days by pairing its engineers with customers' business, engineering and security teams inside the customer's own governance framework. The company said the model is aimed at enterprise and regulated-industry deployments and leaves customers able to operate independently after engagements. The move also extends AWS further into hands-on implementation, potentially increasing competitive pressure on consulting firms and other providers of client-embedded AI services.
