Springpole has now received federal environmental approval in Canada, allowing the northwestern Ontario gold project to move into post-assessment engineering and construction-readiness work.
First Mining Gold Corp. said the Springpole Gold Project in northwestern Ontario has received federal Environmental Assessment approval, marking a significant permitting milestone for one of Canada's largest undeveloped gold resources. The federal government issued a Decision Statement saying the project may proceed, following an assessment process that has been underway since 2018 and included input from Indigenous communities, the public, and multiple federal departments and agencies. The approval adds to earlier project-related progress that included a term sheet with Slate Falls Nation covering development parameters, environmental collaboration, regulatory engagement and future financial and business participation tied to the proposed mine. First Mining said it is now advancing post-EA engineering designs and optimizations toward construction readiness, while complying with approval conditions covering areas such as engineering design, aquatic and terrestrial protections, monitoring, adaptive management and consultation.
