Pierre Yared is stepping down as acting chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, President Trump said Tuesday, as the president's nominee to lead the body permanently nears likely confirmation by the Senate. Trump said Yared will return to Columbia University, where he is a professor of international business. He did not say when Yared's last day would be. Yared has served in the acting role since September. Trump praised Yared and the CEA's work, and the council has continued to list him as acting chairman on its official website. The Council of Economic Advisers has advised presidents on domestic and international economic policy since 1946.
