U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Donald Trump’s recently disclosed roughly $1.4 billion in income from crypto ventures was not a problem, extending the administration’s defense of Trump-linked digital-asset businesses. The disclosure said Trump earned the money since the start of his second term through partnerships including the TRUMP memecoin and World Liberty Financial, while congressional Democrats criticized the arrangement as a conflict of interest. The comments add to an already disputed picture of Trump’s crypto-related finances after his 2025 annual financial disclosure report produced published estimates ranging from more than $580 million to more than $1.2 billion, with broader estimates around $1.43 billion depending on how crypto-related and associated business income was counted. Trump had previously said his sons handle business affairs and that there was “nothing illegal, nothing wrong” with the family’s crypto venture, as scrutiny continues over ethics, investor protection and policymaking in a sector where the president has substantial financial exposure.
