Intesa Sanpaolo said it has completed the cloud migration of its core IT systems in a project with TIM and Google Cloud, marking a major overhaul of the bank's technology stack. The program shifted more than 800 applications to Google Cloud infrastructure using the two Italian Google Cloud regions in Turin and Milan, hosted in TIM's data centers, while an equal number were decommissioned at the bank's physical headquarters. The lender said the migration met and exceeded its technical targets, improved speed and security, and created an AI-ready foundation for future data analytics and digital services. The bank also said the move was completed without major incidents, with TIM overseeing end-to-end governance and FinOps (cloud cost management) monitoring to mitigate risks and control spending. More than 3,000 employees took part in cloud-first training, leading to more than 170 Google Cloud certifications, including more than 60 at an advanced level. Intesa Sanpaolo said the work supports its 2026-2029 business plan and lays the groundwork for Isytech, its cloud-native digital platform.
