Nigel Farage was reported to the UK Parliament’s standards watchdog over allegations he pressed the Bank of England on CBDC and stablecoin policy in ways that could benefit major donor and Tether investor Christopher Harborne.
Labour MP Phil Brickell has asked the UK Parliament’s standards watchdog, the parliamentary standards commissioner, to investigate whether Reform UK leader Nigel Farage lobbied the Bank of England on cryptocurrency policy in ways that could benefit his biggest donor, Christopher Harborne, a major investor in Tether. Decrypt reported that Farage used a private September 2025 meeting with Governor Andrew Bailey to urge the central bank to drop “Britcoin” CBDC plans and resist proposed limits on personal stablecoin holdings. The report said Harborne owns about 12% of Tether, gave Farage an undeclared £5 million, and donated about £15 million to Reform UK, raising conflict-of-interest questions around digital-asset policy.
