A year-long probe in Var led to arrests tied to an alleged “Rip Deal” fake luxury home purchase scheme, with €1.9 million in property seized and a court date set for September 1.
Police in France’s Var department arrested a mother and son after a year-long investigation into an alleged €1.5 million cryptocurrency scam, Nice-Matin reported. Investigators said the pair used a “Rip Deal” scheme, a fraud that lures victims into a high-value transaction before stealing assets, by staging a fake luxury home purchase. The suspects allegedly obtained victims’ account details and private keys (secret codes controlling crypto wallets) in Milan. Authorities also seized €1.9 million in property. The two are due in court on September 1.
