Anthropic opened an Australian office earlier in 2026 and signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the Australian government in April, while initial proposals for the tender were submitted in March. The potential award is drawing attention because IREN has been repositioning from Bitcoin mining toward renewable-powered AI and high-performance computing infrastructure, making any contract of this scale potentially transformational for its revenue base.
