Perplexity said Nvidia’s processor handled AI agent coding tasks about 1.5 times faster than traditional CPUs, underscoring Nvidia’s push into a market long dominated by Intel and AMD.
Perplexity said it plans to adopt Nvidia’s new Vera central processing units, giving the chipmaker another customer as it expands beyond AI accelerators into the broader CPU market. Nvidia has said it expects Vera, a general-purpose processor rather than an AI-specific chip, to generate $20 billion in sales by the end of this fiscal year. The move highlights how CPU demand may shift as AI agents become more common. Perplexity Vice President for Computer Enterprise and Infrastructure Nate Kupp said Nvidia’s CPU completed AI agent coding workloads about 1.5 times faster than traditional CPUs, adding that Vera was “a dead-on fit” for many of the company’s core workloads. Nvidia is trying to challenge entrenched CPU suppliers Intel and Advanced Micro Devices while also diversifying as AI companies such as OpenAI and DeepSeek develop their own AI chips. Perplexity did not say how many Nvidia CPUs it intends to buy. Nvidia has previously said OpenAI, Anthropic and Oracle also plan to use its CPUs.
