The registered U.S. nonprofit is intended to keep OpenClaw open and independent while supporting governance, funding, staff compensation and technical committees around agent standards and deployment.
OpenClaw said the OpenClaw Foundation is now operational as a formally registered U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the global community and overseeing governance, funding, community management and long-term maintenance for its open-source personal AI agent project. The project will continue under the MIT license, while Peter Steinberger will keep leading direction and technical decisions. OpenClaw said the foundation is meant to protect the project, keep it open and independent, and help build a neutral AI platform with stable funding and staff compensation. It has also convened committees on agent identity, agent profiles, evaluation and enterprise deployment. OpenClaw previously listed OpenAI, Nvidia, Microsoft, the University of Michigan, GitHub, Cloudflare, Vercel and Tencent as partners.
