Meta’s AI push includes custom Iris chip production from September, long-term component supply deals, and new Muse model releases that helped lift investor sentiment and the shares’ weekly performance.
Meta Platforms plans to begin manufacturing its in-house AI chip, code-named Iris, from September as it works to expand computing infrastructure from 7 gigawatts this year to 14 gigawatts in 2027, according to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters. Iris is part of Meta’s four-generation Meta Training and Inference Accelerators, or MTIA, program, designed with Broadcom and to be produced by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to support AI systems behind Facebook and Instagram. Meta has also signed long-term supply agreements with Samsung for memory chips, SanDisk for flash storage and Sumitomo Electric for fiber-optic equipment. The company’s broader AI push, including releases of Muse Image and Muse Spark 1.1, helped improve investor sentiment, with Meta shares rising about 15% for the week and erasing the stock’s 2024 losses.
