Senior Senate Democrats are pressing for committee hearings into President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency business interests after his latest financial disclosure showed about $1.4 billion in crypto-related income and identified unnamed third parties with a stake in World Liberty Financial. The lawmakers said the filing raises national security, ethics and foreign influence concerns, including whether the United Arab Emirates or other outside investors could hold sway over the President’s decisions. The July 10 statement came from Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal, Gary Peters, Dick Durbin and Ron Wyden, the top Democrats on five Senate committees with jurisdiction over finance, security and the judiciary. They cited earnings of roughly $636 million from Trump’s meme coin and about $515 million from World Liberty Financial token sales, plus $65 million from equity, and argued that Trump is shaping crypto policy while profiting from the sector. Their demand also points to reports that a UAE-linked vehicle bought a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial for roughly $500 million, as well as to the disbanding of the Justice Department’s National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, which they described as a sign of weaker oversight. The White House has denied any link between its UAE artificial intelligence agreement and the crypto firm, saying Trump’s assets are held in a trust run by his children. Whether the push advances now depends on whether Republican committee chairs agree to hold the requested hearings.
