A White House post promoted a U.S. Mint coin honoring President Trump for America’s 250th anniversary, while the similarly named TRUMP memecoin briefly dipped and remained heavily underwater for many holders.
A White House video promoted a new Trump-themed $1 commemorative coin from the U.S. Mint rather than a cryptocurrency, briefly causing confusion with the unrelated TRUMP memecoin. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the gold-finish coin, made of non-precious metals, is being struck in Philadelphia and is planned for release this fall as part of America’s 250th anniversary. The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts approved the design in March 2026. The TRUMP token briefly fell from about $1.59 to around $1.56 as the clip spread on X, then stabilized, but it remains more than 97% below its January 2025 high and has a market capitalization near $370 million. Nearly 989,000 of 1.48 million wallets holding the token are sitting on combined losses of $3.81 billion, while only 200 million of its 1 billion supply circulates publicly and the remaining 800 million is controlled by insiders and Trump-affiliated entities. The episode added to broader scrutiny of Trump-linked crypto earnings after a financial disclosure reported at least $1.4 billion in 2025 crypto income, including TRUMP memecoin royalties and holdings tied to World Liberty Financial.
