Mark-to-market losses on four single-stock leveraged ETFs linked to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix reached 8.8337 trillion won in South Korea between July 1 and 13, based on FnGuide Quantwise and Mirae Asset Securities data released July 15. Assets under management in those four funds fell 37.7% to 8.9389 trillion won. Across all 14 listed leveraged ETFs tracking Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, assets under management dropped 41.4%. The figures highlight how leveraged ETFs (funds that amplify daily price moves) can magnify losses when underlying shares fall, with retail investors accounting for about 60% of related ETF assets under management as of June 19.
