The Dutch authorization lets BitPay expand crypto payments, stablecoin transactions and cross-border services across the EU under MiCA’s passporting regime.
BitPay has received authorization from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets as a crypto-asset service provider under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework, allowing the company to offer regulated digital asset services across the bloc through its Dutch subsidiary. The approval enables BitPay to expand cryptocurrency payment acceptance, stablecoin-based transactions and cross-border payment services for businesses, while consumers can access tools to spend and manage digital assets and partner platforms can support buying, selling and swapping cryptocurrencies. The authorization comes after MiCA became mandatory for crypto-asset service providers on July 1 and places BitPay alongside firms including Coinbase and Ripple that have secured EU-wide operating rights under the new regime. BitPay said the move strengthens its European expansion from Amsterdam and supports growing demand for regulated digital asset payments.
