Paymonade gains MiCA license as EEA-wide crypto approvals drop to 280

The Liechtenstein-based firm said the end of the EU transition period left only 280 fully licensed crypto companies across the EEA, down from an estimated 3,000 previously operating under national regimes.

Summary

Paymonade, the trading name of Damoon Technology (Europe) AG, said it has secured a MiCA license from Liechtenstein’s Financial Market Authority, allowing it to offer regulated crypto services across all 30 European Economic Area member states under a single authorization. The company framed the approval as part of a sharp industry consolidation after the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, or MiCA (EU crypto rulebook), became fully effective and its transition period ended on July 1, 2026. It said the sector had previously included more than 3,000 registered crypto businesses in the EU operating under national frameworks, but only 280 companies now hold full EEA-wide approval, based on the public ESMA (EU securities watchdog) register cited in the release. Paymonade, which provides fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat on-ramp and off-ramp infrastructure (services converting between traditional money and digital assets), reported annualized transaction volume of $1.8 billion in the first half of 2026 and said it plans to double its European workforce over the next 12 months and lift annualized volume to CHF 6 billion a year by mid-2027.
