Spain’s 1-0 win over Argentina settled the market with most addresses posting small losses, while a handful of wallets captured outsized gains and trading activity cooled after the tournament.
Polymarket’s World Cup winner market ended with Spain beating Argentina 1-0 in the July 19 final, settling a prediction market that drew more than 194,000 unique addresses but left roughly two-thirds underwater. Nearly 130,000 addresses, or 66.7% of participants, finished in the red. Most losses were small, with 114,126 addresses each down less than $100 and averaging under $10, while 43 addresses lost more than $100,000 each for a combined $15 million. On the profit side, 57,991 addresses gained less than $100 each, averaging under $5, and only 54 addresses cleared more than $100,000, together taking in $22.3 million. Five wallets each made more than $1 million, including asparagus2012, Allezpapa, yamal19, thesingularityisnear, and wco26. Arkham said asparagus2012 operated seven separate accounts and generated more than $7.4 million across World Cup markets before consolidating the proceeds into one address. Activity has since cooled across Polymarket and Kalshi as major sporting events drop off the calendar, with Bernstein analyst Ian Moore expecting a quieter August before NFL season begins in September.
