The steelmaker said quarterly profit topped analyst estimates as stronger steel pricing and solid demand supported results in its core steel business.
Steel Dynamics said second-quarter profit rose to $534.1 million, or $3.69 a share, from $298.7 million, or $2.01 a share, a year earlier, as improved pricing and continued solid demand in its steel business lifted results. The company reported net sales of $6.1 billion and said record steel shipments and wider metal spreads supported earnings, while startup losses at its aluminum operations narrowed as the Columbus, Mississippi mill ramps. The quarterly earnings figure came in above analysts' expectations of $3.63 a share, according to FactSet. Steel Dynamics has also said second-quarter operating income reached $700 million and adjusted EBITDA was $921 million, with steel operations generating $721 million of operating income as average external steel selling prices increased to $1,298 per ton. The company said demand was led by the energy, non-residential construction, automotive, industrial and agricultural sectors. It also highlighted stronger order activity in steel fabrication, a backlog nearly 45% above a year earlier, and expectations for aluminum volumes and profitability to improve in the second half of 2026 and through 2027 as startup costs ease and utilization rises.
