The Visa card deepens Samsung’s push into U.S. financial services through Samsung Wallet as both companies signal interest in expanding the partnership beyond cards.
Samsung Electronics and Barclays have launched the Samsung Galaxy Card in the United States, marking Samsung’s first U.S. co-branded credit card and deepening its move into financial services through Samsung Wallet. The Visa card lets users apply, manage accounts, track spending and redeem rewards inside Samsung Wallet, and offers 5% cash back on Samsung purchases alongside additional rewards on Samsung Pay and other spending categories. Applications are set to open July 22 in the U.S. The launch places Samsung more directly against Apple Pay in the U.S. payments market and comes as technology companies and banks work to tie digital wallets more closely to financial products. Samsung and Barclays both described the partnership as strategic and long term, signaling potential expansion into additional products and capabilities beyond the initial card offering. Barclays is also using the tie-up to broaden its U.S. consumer and card business. The bank said it has been actively pursuing new partnerships, following its 2024 acquisition of the General Motors credit card business, which expanded its U.S. card footprint.
