The biotechnology company said its PET biorecycling process achieved more than 95% conversion in 24 hours on complex post-consumer textile waste under industrial conditions.
Carbios said it is extending its licensing offering to the textile market after completing production trial batches at its Clermont-Ferrand demonstration plant, including its 100th batch produced from packaging and textile waste since the plant was commissioned. The company said the validation of its “Fiber-to-Fiber” biorecycling process under industrially representative conditions showed more than 95% conversion within 24 hours on complex post-consumer textile waste streams rich in PET polyester fibers. That performance, it said, supports the production of virgin-quality monomers and demonstrates the robustness, reproducibility and technological maturity of its enzymatic depolymerization process (breaking PET into its building blocks). Carbios said the expansion broadens the addressable market for its licensing business beyond packaging into textiles, a segment it cited as consuming about 67 million tonnes of PET polyester fibers a year, or nearly twice the size of the PET packaging market. CEO Benoît Grenot said the milestone confirms the industrial maturity of the technology and enables Carbios to meet growing demand for scalable, circular recycling solutions.
