Capital Research and Management Company, a unit of Capital Group, increased its stake in Metaplanet to 136,059,120 common shares, equal to 10.63% of voting rights, according to a filing with Japanese regulators. The position, effective July 13, 2026, was built by adding about 17.4 million shares from a previously reported 9.32% stake, making Capital Group the Japanese company’s largest shareholder. Metaplanet, a former hotel operator that has shifted to a Bitcoin-first treasury strategy since 2024, currently holds 43,000 BTC valued at about $2.9 billion at a Bitcoin price of $66,200 per coin. The disclosure underscores growing institutional use of listed corporate treasury vehicles to gain indirect Bitcoin exposure.
