Canada Nickel Company Inc. said the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada has submitted the Final Impact Assessment Report for the Crawford Nickel Project to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, moving the Ontario project into the last stage of the federal review process. The Minister’s Decision Statement is expected within 30 days. Canada Nickel CEO Mark Selby said the step follows years of technical work, environmental planning and engagement with Indigenous Nations, and that the company is now working toward a construction decision in 2027. The company said Crawford is the first mining project to reach the final stage under Canada’s amended Impact Assessment Act, 2019, following its designation as a Nation-Building Project in 2025 and recognition under Ontario’s “One Project, One Process” framework in 2026. Located in Ontario’s Critical Minerals Corridor, Crawford is expected to be the Western World’s largest nickel sulphide project, according to Wood Mackenzie and company filings, and is positioned by the company as a potential anchor for a zero-carbon industrial cluster in the Timmins Nickel District.
