Stablecoins and blockchain-based payment rails are being explored to improve humanitarian aid delivery in Haiti and Afghanistan, with efforts focused on nutrition assistance for mothers, banking access for unbanked people, and refugee returnee support. At the AlgoFoundation Humanitarian Payments Council, participants said the technology can make transfers faster, cheaper and easier to track. As one example, a UNHCR-backed program in Afghanistan used HesabPay to disburse $35 million to more than 625,000 returnees, a case presented by Algorand Foundation representatives Matt Keller and Nigel Pont.
