The number of unemployed people edged down to 218 thousand, while employment fell to 4.633 million and the share of jobseekers out of work for more than a year increased.
Hungary’s unemployment rate stood at 4.5% in April-June 2026, unchanged from the same period a year earlier, as the number of unemployed people slipped by 0.4 thousand to 218 thousand. Of the total, 106 thousand were men, with an unemployment rate of 4.1%, and 112 thousand were women, with a rate of 4.9%. Job-search conditions showed persistent strain despite the stable headline rate. The average time spent looking for work was 12.5 months. Among unemployed people, 36.7% had been seeking work for less than three months and 28.0% for 4 to 11 months, while the share searching for more than a year rose by 3.6 percentage points to 35.3%. Employment weakened over the period, with the number of employed people falling by 28 thousand from a year earlier to 4.633 million. Male employment rose by 1 thousand to 2.473 million, while female employment declined by 29 thousand to 2.160 million.
