Anthropic has been selected for the FCA’s second Supercharged Sandbox cohort, which will test AI use cases from payments and fraud detection to compliance, governance and support for vulnerable consumers through December 2026.
Anthropic has been selected for the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s second Supercharged Sandbox cohort, one of 21 organizations chosen from 199 applications, a 51% year-over-year increase. The program gives firms a controlled setting with high-performance infrastructure and regulatory support to build AI proofs-of-concept for regulated financial services. This round will test use cases including agent-led payments, fraud and economic crime detection, compliance automation, AI governance frameworks and tools for vulnerable consumers, with testing scheduled from July through December 2026. The initiative builds on the FCA’s AI Lab, launched in October 2024, and the Supercharged Sandbox’s formal opening in June 2025, with infrastructure support from partners including NayaOne and NVIDIA. Anthropic’s inclusion is notable because it is an AI model provider rather than a financial services firm, signaling the regulator wants underlying AI developers involved alongside deployers. Several cohort participants also have links to digital assets, including TrueLayer, Sardine AI Corp and Scottish Widows, while the FCA continues separate work on a stablecoin Regulatory Sandbox and broader cryptoasset regulation frameworks.
