The agreement sets a framework to study long-term modernization, operation and a potential concession for the Port of Tadjourah, with IFC support linked to regional trade, supply-chain resilience and food security goals.
Tiryaki Agro and the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding to assess the long-term development, modernization and future operation of the Port of Tadjourah. The framework covers technical, commercial and operational studies and could, subject to successful assessments, negotiations and definitive agreements, lead to infrastructure upgrades, expanded logistics and storage capacity, improved handling of agricultural products and bulk cargo, and a long-term concession for management and operation of the port. The announcement links the initiative to IFC, the World Bank Group’s private-sector arm, which supported earlier feasibility work, planning and stakeholder engagement. The project is presented as part of Djibouti’s strategy to strengthen its role as a regional trade and logistics hub serving the Horn of Africa, the Middle East and global markets while supporting agricultural trade, supply-chain resilience and food security.
