The surprise appointment puts the former Federal Trade Commission head alongside Tony Shorris, who will serve as the city agency’s president and chief executive officer.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani named Lina Khan, the antimonopoly former Federal Trade Commission head, as chair of the city’s Economic Development Corporation, handing oversight of the agency responsible for managing business growth to a prominent regulatory figure. He also appointed Tony Shorris as the EDC’s president and chief executive officer. Shorris is a longtime City Hall official and most recently worked as a partner at McKinsey & Co., with municipal experience dating back to the 1980s.
