Primary-sector growth led by agriculture and livestock offset weakness in manufacturing, utilities and construction, while services also expanded from a year earlier.
Mexico's economic activity rose 1.1% from a year earlier in May 2026, matching forecasts but slowing from an upwardly revised 2.6% increase in April. Growth was led by the primary sector, which expanded 7.6% as agricultural output climbed 8.7% and livestock production increased 5.0%. The tertiary sector rose 1.7%, supported by gains in wholesale trade, government activities, healthcare and social services, and financial services and insurance. The secondary sector contracted 0.7%, as declines in manufacturing, utilities and construction outweighed growth in mining. On a monthly basis, economic activity fell 0.3% after rising 1.4% in April, indicating weaker momentum at the start of the second quarter.
