In a wide-ranging Economist interview, Elon Musk said his Trump alliance and Doge role went too far; Dogecoin later slid to $0.0685 as traders reacted to his remarks.
Elon Musk said he became overly absorbed in politics during his alliance with Donald Trump, telling The Economist he “got carried away” after backing Trump’s 2024 campaign with $200 million and later becoming the most visible figure in the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or Doge. The wide-ranging interview also included Musk’s forecasts that AI could surpass the sum of human intelligence within five years and make human work “optional,” as well as contentious comments on the UK, Europe’s far right and the war in Ukraine. After publication, Dogecoin fell below $0.07 to as low as $0.0685 from about $0.0723, with CoinMarketCap data showing the memecoin later around $0.0687, down 1.4% over 24 hours, as traders again reacted to Musk’s comments despite no formal link between the cryptocurrency and the government initiative.
